dotty starts it off

the marvelous kendi over at kendi everyday is doing another thirty challenge (30 outfits out of 30 items including shoes) and this time i'm joining in.  yay!  truthfully, my wardrobe this summer is rather small since i'm not at home, so picking thirty pieces to wear isn't all that challenging.  i'm still waffling on my last few, but i should have it figured out tomorrow.  

anyway, today we were in LA eating all sorts of delicious fancy pizza and butterscotch.  sadly, i had to leave the boy there (something or another about work) and drive back across the desert.

three things that made this possible:

1. there's been an ominous watermelon hanging around the house for the last month

2. you cannot bring fruit into california (there's a whole inspection stop where uniformed officers interrogate you with hard-hitting questions like "do you have any fruit?")

3. the boy knew of a railroad overpass just outside jean, nevada

at some point last spring i came across this spotted brown tank while scanning racks and racks of clothes that smell like your elderly neighbor's basement couch.  smitten with the shiny little dots, i paid no attention to the tent-like cut of it.  i wore it multiple times last year with various belts and then this morning i tucked it into my grayest gray skirt, put on my granniest black cardigan, and then some serious heels and ridiculously long earrings to counteract the cardigan's octogenarian effect.
