recap: january
[working]
A bunch this month. I had my first BIG deadline this week since I started my new job last June. I'm not good at dealing with grouchy people or working late, but I powered through it. And the project will be so pretty when it's done in September!
[shopping]
Light gray cocoon coat from J.Crew Factory. It's still winter and a new coat mid-season makes everything better. (posted here) $68 (on super duper clearance).
Jodphur Gigi pants from J.Crew Factory. I already have the dotted version of these boot-friendly leggings-like pants and I've already worn these pants a bunch of times. (posted here)
$47.
Cos jacquard jumper dress. Oh, gradients, you get me every time. $51.
Loft marled shift dress (via ThredUp). I sent in a cleanout bag in December, so I've been scrolling through the dresses category to use up my credit. $27 (but not really since I used credit).
January total: $166.
and get nosy with a bunch of other blogger's budgets over yonder.

dotty, a fair-weather coat, and cool pants
[wearing]
coat: j.crew factory
sweater: rebecca taylor
pants: j.crew factory
boots: gap
tote: madewell
sunnies: see eyewear
hat: uniqlo
[three things]
1. I get so excited when it's a legitimate sunny day AND it's not freezing cold. This doesn't happen all that often in Chicago in January, so this is big deal.
2. These stretchy pants with pleather jodphur insets are way cooler than I am.
3. That boy is still wearing my birthday hat. (Or rather, "our hat" that appeared around my birthday.)

dotty, leathahhh, and lunchtime snaps
[wearing]
cardigan: twelfth street by cynthia vincent
dress that you totally can't see: joie
tights: free press
boots: stuart weitzman
bag: madewell
necklace: forever21
1. These are some middle of the workday, lunchtime bloggy photos! There are some serious advantages to working five blocks my mister.
2. I have a co-worker that compliments my clothes every single time that I wear something with fake or real leather. Maybe she's heavily invested in a leather finishing plant or something? Anyway, these sleeves get props (and pets if she's sitting next to me in a meeting) pretty often.
3. Hey, it's Friday! I have a big deadline at the end of the month, so this week flew by at work. Hopefully I'll get a metric ton of work done today so that I don't have to work this weekend!

fleece-lined tights: free press

[three things]
1. A few spots.

3. And gray tights. (Black tights totally did not work with this.)

dotty, vest layers, and party dresses
[wearing]
dress: cos
cardigan: gap
vest: zara
tote: madewell
necklace: forever21
shoes: bcbgeneration
[three things]
1. This vest doesn't get too much wear due to its tendency to have a 80s vibe. It's kinda like a party dress in my closet...I'm going to keep it around for just a few occasions per year.
2. I used to be such a cardigan person, but now I'm much more of a jackets person. This cardigan and vest combination was way more comfortable than a jacket though.
3. Seeing the mirrored photo of our portrait wall really makes me want a twelve portrait situation to happen someday.

dotty, outfit repeats, and it's so cold
[wearing]
trench vest: forever21
sweater: joie
jeans: old navy
boots: old navy
[three things]
1. I've been wearing a whole lot of black lately since it's crazy cold and I consider my day a success if I make it to and from work without getting frostbite. Brr.
2. To try and reset, I brought back a gray-on-gray combination from last Spring (original outfit post over here) to get some lighter neutrals back into the mix.
3. As much as I want to dress up more for work, I might just have to wait until the weather warms up a wee bit. So, how about April? I did order some potential new work heels from Banana that I think would work with tights.

dotty, bad-looking pants, and good-looking hair
[wearing]
blouse: madewell
pants: theory
necklace: forever21
bag: marc by marc jacobs
belt: j.crew
[three things]
1. These pants definitely do not photograph well, so let's talk about my hair instead. I was going to get back on the highlighting train at my next hair appointment, but then I saw these photos and decided that I actually like my hair color right now. So, dear hair, you are welcome for all the damage that I am not going to put you through.
2. I never posted any wardrobe resolutions for the new year, but one of my (very loose) resolutions is to dress up more for work. Just because I can wear jeans any day of the week doesn't mean I should. And when I do wear jeans it should be with heels.
3. These pants are part of a suit I bought two years ago and the jacket is a bit tight due to my yoga-ing since then, but these definitely need to get out and about more often.

dotty, holiday jeans, and a brand new year
[wearing]
sweater: rebecca taylor
coated jeans: paige premium denim
wedges: elie tahari
necklace: forever21
[three things]
1. Oh hey, twenty-fifteen! Last year was a big year of changes for me professionally and I am in such a better spot now than I was a year ago. It was definitely hard to sneakily find a new job and deal with the transition whilst finishing up my licensure requirements. I'm pretty excited about being settled and ready to kill it (design-wise) this year.
2. I've waffled a lot in the last few months about where this little blog is going. Sometimes I feel like I should decide to either put a whole lot more effort in or just throw in the towel. But really it's doing exactly what I wanted to do when I started it a few years ago: pushing me to dress better and buy more intentionally. My posting might be a bit sporadic, but I never hold that against other bloggers, so let's just roll with it, okay?
3. And these jeans! Coated jeans have some serious cool-ifying power. I've pretty much worn them to everything over the holidays. I've confirmed that shiny purple pants are indeed a wardrobe staple for me.
