Welp, I didn't end up finding either of the workish pieces that I mentioned last month, but I ended up with a random assortment of semi-fun pieces. My goal for the next few months is to really focus on the professional pieces that my closet is lacking. Less comfy clothes, more tailored things.
1. old navy striped cotton tunic. Summer, stripes, and yes. $12 online.
2. j.crew factory jodphur gigi pants. I already have a pair of these, so when I spotted them on super sale I decided to stock up. $19 online.
3. j.crew factory print sheath dress. I've already worn this dress to work a few times and is definitely one of those amazingly easy-to-style summer pieces. $56 online.
4. old navy patterned espadrilles. Fun print, but not comfy yet. We'll see if breaking them in helps. $11 online.
5. franco sarto heath flats. I've been leaving a pair of black flats at work, so I wanted a second pair for when I'm not at work. This leather pair was an easy lunchtime shopping decision. $50 via nordstrom rack.
6. (not pictured, but worn here and here.) vince camuto cam shoes. I almost forgot about these guys because I bought them at the end of last month, but they are ridiculously comfortable and make me feel much cooler than I actually am. $99 via DSW.
Total: $248.

dotty, smidges, and stretchy pants
[wearing]
dress: rachel rachel roy
pants: j.crew factory
heels: vince camuto
bag: madewell
necklace: forever21
[three things]
1. I work with some very stylish designers, so I can't take any credit for this dress+skinny pants+heels combination. This dress is just a smidge too short for work, but makes a great tunic-ish top.
2. I feel like this tote can work with any outfit because it matches the ends of my hair where old highlights have gone awry. I'm just going to pretend I'm in on that ombre craze.
3. Word to the mother: Look, our floors totally look blue sometimes!

dotty, elmo's world, and diamonds
[wearing]
dress: j.crew factory
muppet sweater: h&m
heels: vince camuto
bag: banana republic
creative: This dress is just the right amount of pattern for me.
young: Elmo sweater! Can you tell that this sweater is approximate furryness of a muppet? If it was bright red it would be much more obvious, but with the dark color in flies under the radar.
professional: Heels, a whole stack of bracelets, and a shift dress. Done and done.

dotty, fronds, and big cardigans
[wearing]
cardigan: twelfth street by cynthia vincent
dress: joie
crop top: forever21
[three things]
1. It's about time to put away this cardigan for the summer. With leather sleeves, it's definitely not a year-round piece. Also, a serious vegan I work with touched the sleeve by accident once and totally freaked out. #leathahproblemz
2. With that said, it's definitely going out with a great borderline-too-cray-cray pattern mix. Palm fronds and geometric lines? Oh yyyyeah.
3. Hey there, holiday weekend! We're off on a bit of an adventure starting today. Hooray for teeny tiny vacations!

dotty, accessorizing, and an otherwise very boring outfit
[wearing]
top: day birger et mikkelsen
pants: j.crew factory
heels: vince camuto
scarf: loft
bag: banana republic
creative: I'm wearing my industry's official uniform: black and black. But I'm wearing fun shoes and a patterned scarf too!
young: Hmm. Pink bag?
professional: The skinny pants+tunic top combination can look pretty casual and weekendish, but dressing it up helps a bit.

dotty, ikat, and blavy
[wearing]
dress: banana republic
heels: vince camuto
jacket: michael michael kors
bag: banana republic
[three things]
1. This dress has long sleeves, but somehow just doesn't work with tights. It's great for a slightly chilly office in the springtime though!
2. Black and navy! Together! Heidi combined these two former foes the other day and it's been on my list to give the blavy (or nlack?) combination another shot.
3. Ever since one of my co-workers commented that I never wear any patterns, I've been busting out every patterned summer thing in my closet. Isn't it strange how a little comment like that can shift things? I think it somehow nudged me out of my black top+black pants rut I've been in since um...November.

dotty, tees, and pencils
[wearing]
seventy: banana republic
pencil skirt: thrifted
heels: vince camuto
bag: madewell
necklace: forever21
[three things]
1. So, I think the last time I tried to pair a casual top with a pencil skirt the combination was much louder. Like red foil print with leopard. Whoa, nelly. Who is this Dotty that wears that much brightness? And she has really long hair too. Weird.
2. Pencil skirts used to be my favorite thing to thrift. This red wool one was definitely one of my best thrift finds ever. (What's with all the references to my bright color-loving former self?) I now prefer dresses over pencil skirts, but this charcoal one has survived many closet cleanouts by hiding amongst my wool dress pants. Sneaky, sneaky.
3. I've been trying to wear heels more to work since my workfits have taken on a generally more casual vibe since my job switcheroo last June. I also donated every single uncomfortable pair of shoes I owned when we moved. So none of my oh-but-they-are-only-fifteen-dollars-so-it-is-okay-that-they-are-pinchy shoes made the move with us. These heel/boot hybrids were a lunchtime purchase and I'm all about the cone heel and comfy elastic back strap.

dotty, springtime pattern mixing, and pinkness
[wearing]
dress: j.crew factory
heels: charles by charles david
bag: banana republic
necklace: forever21
bracelets: adia kibur, forever21, fitbit
[three things]
1. I already have the black, pocketless version of this dress, so ordering its patterned cousin was pretty low risk. The crispness of the print is a little muddy (it looks like it was stamped, not woven) but I'm still on board.
2. Do these count as patterned shoes? If so, is this pattern mixing then?
3. My big, pink, eastertastic tote arrived! The pinkness is perfectly subtle, so I can still stick with my neutrals-ish shopping policy.

dotty, rain delays, and grid pants
[wearing]
sweater: banana republic
pants: loft
necklaces: forever21
[three things]
1. What do you wear to work when it's drizzly and icky outside? Comfy pants and big sweater. I'm usually a blazers-to-work person, but the side vents on this sweater are a little weird with blazers and I liked the slouchy vibe.
2. Houseplants. I think they might be multiplying while I'm asleep.
3. One of my co-workers said something the other day about how I rarely wear patterns. Say what? I guess I've been wearing too many black dresses with black jackets lately! But really, come on, I own grid pants! And wear them borderline too often!

dotty, pineapples, and a pretty standard outfit combination
[wearing]
blazer: zara
pineapple print tank: zara
pants: wayf
loafers: gap
creative: I'm pretty sure this giant pineapple counts as my graphic flair for the week. I really should have worn it on a day that I meet with the branding team.
young: There's elastic cuffs on the bottom of these pants. And at the waistband too. If I had paired them with a onesie this might be trouble.
professional: I put on a blazer and some respectable shoes to turn my comfies into workies. Like I always do. I should note that I work in a jeans office, so I'm pretty much always more dressed up than my co-workers. (Even when I'm wearing incognito pajama pants.)
