hmm, it seems as if july is a goner, so it's time for another recap post!  we ended up getting the rollerskating apartment i mentioned in this post, so we're going to be spending the next few weeks figuring out where everything should go.  i'm predicting that we'll move the couch around more than five times.  

it was a busy month on the work front, but i managed to post quite a few outfits. my favorites are marked with asterisks, but it would be neat to see which ones y'all liked the best too!

creative: i was really liking this mix of neutrals, but it really needed a wee bit of color.  my co-workers joke that this mustardy hue is "my color".  
young: a tan pencil skirt could definitely turn old quickly, but i think the monochromaticness going on here keeps it young.

i had a sassy waitress at lunch the other day ask me what was up with girls wearing scarves in the summer.  i was distracted by baked potato soup, so i didn't offer any sort of explanation.  even though it doesn't really make sense, i wear scarves year round.  i just like them.  then again, i also eat soup year round.  and i like soup too.

this skirt's length and horizontal stripeyness mean that it should be paired with heels, but since it's all soft and stripey i wanted to wear it for some serious weekend errand running.  since we live in the city (and i hate hate hate driving) we usually leave magellan (our little blue car) parked until monday morning.  so yeah, no weekend heels for this girl.

we've been doing this for a month and i've seen more questionable basement laundry situations than anyone ever needs to see.  i think we've found a winner though and with more than double the space we have now and hardwood floors, i should be able to really work on my rollerskating skills.  the downstairs neighbors are going to LOVE me.

funny story: i bought these to wear to work last fall and now i work in a non-jeans firm, so they are definitely not workwear.  i think overall i prefer a dressier work environment though...maybe i just like dressing up or something.  okay, that wasn't actually a funny story.  sorry.

the boy usually makes the lakefront look all deserted when we take pictures here (see below--there's even birds!), but really it looks a whole lot more like the above photo.  there's even a juggling club that is usually hanging out around here.

when i saw this top at a thrift store it screamed retiree-in-florida-going-to-the-beach to me.  and i bought it without any hesitation since i was a grad-student-in-michigan-going-to-shovel-snow.  the winning thrift store combination of silk and a funny print gets me every time.

i totally bought this sweater to get free shipping and i wasn't a big fan when i got it in the mail. but then it sat on my dresser and its cheery disposition won me over.  and it is soooo soft.

to work all color blocked out. i tend to think associate the color blocking trend with primary hues, but since i prefer those color's cousins (burgundy, mustard, and navy) this version is much more me-ish.

these pants are like donuts for me.  every couple months i crave them and then quickly forget that they even exist for awhile.  and the pattern reminds me of sprinkles, so there's that.

dotty, june, and rice

june seems to have flown by, so i though it's time for another recap.


finishing: up the last bits of a big project at work and being very proud of toughing out my first seventy hour work week. i'm a lightweight when it comes to working long hours and i get really grouchy when i eat dinner at work, so this is a big deal for me.  i can see myself getting more and more responsibility at work which is simultaneously scary and exciting.  it's like a haunted house, but with no ghosts.  and a lot more paper.  


beginning: an amazing five days off from work!  there's going to be some fireworks, a whole lot of lazing about, and a couple days at my parent's house.  all good stuff.


reading: murakami's the wind-up bird chronicle.  i'm enjoying it, but it seems to make me very sleepy, so i haven't even hit the halfway point yet even though i've been "reading" it for the last three months.





eating: wild rice mixes with a veggie and fresh mozzarella.  it's so yummy and i've even started dressing like it...that's how good it is.





buying: far too many pencil skirts.  some strange combination of j.crew sales on punchy hues (see above) and shopping for the perfect light grey work skirt online have left me with SIX new skirts.  i don't even have hangers for all of them.

creative: since i have a lil bit of leeway in sartorial choices for work lately (there aren't too many girls for comparison in my office and it's summer) i've been trying to wear things to work that i am completely comfortable in.  i'm not trying to push the dress code envelope by wearing jeans or anything that drastic, but sometimes a stressful week needs a polka dot scarf+comfy tee outfit.  
young: polka dots always seem "young" to me.  or very old.  how does that work?
professional: there's still a pencil skirt and matching shoes in the mix.  


i just got through my biggest deadline EVER at work this week, so i'm pretty excited to spend some quality time with my couch at HOME in the near future.
