dotty shops

back in mid-september, after realizing just how many shoes i had been buying, i resolved to be more conscious of what i was adding to my closet. i set a goal of limiting myself to two pieces and one accessory a month in an effort to fill my small closet with better pieces. so, every month i plan on keeping track of all the things that are added.

only a partial month with the limitations, but i only bought the shiny shoes after making the resolution.  there are eight items entering the closet:

three cheapie bracelets from forever21

a striped pajama romper from forever21 (i don't think this actually counts since it's jammies)

a trench vest also from forever21 (worn here)

gray suede oxfords from old navy (worn here)

shiny metallic oxfords bought secondhand when i was buffalo-exchanging some clothes, even buying the shoes i still made twenty bucks in the process (worn here)

taupe rubber rainboots from loeffler randall (worn here) and i am so totally in heart with these boots because they have the puddle-jumping function of rainboots, but don't look childish.

all in all, i was quite happy with my purchases.  the boots were on my wishlist for months and it made sense to spend a little extra on something that protects me from getting soggy.  as for things like shiny shoes and bracelets, i perfectly fine with buying cheap versions of trendy accessories.

the first full month with my shopping limitations in play was a bit of an enigma in that it was my birthday month.  seven things joined the ranks of my closet, but only two of them weren't gifts.

(clockwise from top left)
etta dress from j.crew, gift from my grandmother

"i'm like buttah" silk shirt from zara woman, gift from boy (worn here)

sparkley sheer top from club monaco, gift from boy

meander wool pants from j.crew, non-gift

aniseed wide legs pants from anthro, non-gift

merino wool cowl dress from j.crew, gift from parents (worn here)

gold sparkly belt from j.crew, gift from auntlanta (aunt in atlanta)

my closet was missing pants of the non-jean variety and since i don't really like how standard polyester-blend, straight-leg ones look on me, i added two pairs of crazy pants to my wardrobe.  the j.crew ones are basically sweatpants made of gray wool.  they're definitely weird, but i so far i like the challenge that they present.  the anthro pants are something i've been waiting for patiently to go on sale since august, so when they dropped to a third of their retail price i snagged them online since i had already tried them on in store twice.  they're silk and kinda fancy, which is totally a requirement for crazy pants.

this was my first full month with no occasions to get lots of gifts and i REALLY stuck to my rules.  i didn't even buy an accessory to turn this duo into a trio!

furry mcfurerson from forever21
gray deep v-neck tee from american apparel

i buy a new short-sleeve gray v-neck tee pretty much every year, so this time i decided to invest in a higher quality one. i nabbed a groupon and got this sucker for the price of a lower quality one. oh, and the boy got new sweatpants.  f. mcfurerson is definitely a trendy buy, but i'm  totally smitten with this little guy.

  2. Love how you are tracking this! You've inspired me to do the same with my own monthly purchases. Can't wait to see the months to come :)
