1. yes, mom, i am indeed wearing birkenstocks.  apparently they are cool-ish again and my feet are going to be extra comfortable all summer.  #everyonewins

2. somehow i had never tried on joe's jeans until recently.  why didn't anyone tell me that they have the approximate softness of a puffy cloud?  this pair is currently at the tailor getting hemmed to the perfect ankle length for summer.

3. my toes definitely need some fun nail polish.  it makes forward folds so much cheerier at yoga.

1. i really like how comfy this knit moto is, but it seems to look a little bit sloppy.  maybe i'm just used to more structured jackets.  or i should just not wear it with my baggy pants.

2. yup, the baggy dress pants are still going strong.  they're going to get their own remix post in no time at this rate!

3. i've now tried quite a few of my curly hair product combination on my short locks, and miss jessie is winning so far.

1. i wore this dress quite a bit last summer with a belt (like this) and i am definitely looking forward to easy dress+shoes combinations this summer.

2. i used to be really into wearing boots with dresses in the summer-ish months (like this).  and apparently i am returning to this.

3. i am really excited about the warmer temps, but i totally had some exposed ankles...and a winter hat for our walk out for wine+cheese on friday night.  i was totally that person.

[just two things]
1. i found these photos from march (when our alley was still an ice-skating pond) when i was cleaning out the memory card.  it sums up my winter weekend uniform pretty well.  sweatpants that are okay to wear outside, a big cardigan, and weather-inappropriate flats.

2. based on the weather this past winter, i definitely bought more sweaters than i usually do.  we live in a building with steam heat, so we have pretty much no control over the temperature.  it gets really cold, and then the radiators make a bunch of clanking noises and turn on, it gets really hot, and then it gets colder for the next four hours until they turn on again.  ugh.  at least i have a serious sweater collection for next winter!

3. for some reason, i stopped wearing these pants for the winter.  i think the knees get a little weird with boots, but they're back now!

[three things]
1. i have amassed over the last few seasons a pretty serious zara jacket collection.  there's one with big stripes, a tweedy one, a light gray one, and this mixed media one here.  they're all near each other in my closet, but it seems like i reach for this one early in the week since it's so good at making outfits look cooler.
 
2. this was my first shot at wearing my cropped hair in its natural curly state.  you can't tell very well from these photos, but it was a definite success.

3. lately i have been all about skinny pants with a slouchy top and a tailored blazer outfit formula.  maybe with some more spring weather i'll get back to wearing dresses.  yay, spring!

1. stripes!  can i just wear striped shirts and slouchy pants to work all summer?  okay, thanks!

2. i think of myself as not really a hat person, but whenever i see photos of me wearing hats i wonder "why don't i wear more hats?" (especially this hat...ha!)  maybe i should make this summer a summer of hats.

3. i really like these flats, but i'm having a little trouble getting used to the open sides.  pretty much i feel like my shoes are falling off all the time.  #dorsayproblemz

tour: living room

we recently added a loveseat to our furniture collection which turned our one-couch-facing-the-television setup into a delightful L of seating.  i keep talking about how exciting this is to my mom and sister, but since neither of them will come visit us (they have pretty good excuses: a broken toe and a bajillion children) i figured it was time for some photos to pop up on the bloggity-blog!



the view from behind the big white couch.  there are yellow dinosaurs all over since they were all over our wedding reception and traveled back to chicago with us after the festivities.  one of our friends once described our apartment as hide-and-seek for graphic designers.  when i grow up i want to be a graphic designer, so i love this description.


everyone that visits asks us if we own this racehorse.  we do not.  we just really like his sassy demeanor.

as much as we love each other's faces, we decided that a life-size portrait from our wedding was not really our thing.  instead, we opted for a few framed mementos from our big day.  our first dance is on the left, the venue is on the right (in glare), and out of the frame below is my backup veil smushed into a picture frame.


the newest member of the living room family.  so tweedy.  so grayey.


the loveseat is a karlstad from ikea, but we replaced the chunky legs with midcentury style ones from this etsy store.  it was a total game changer.  like seeing someone who normally wears t-shirts in a tuxedo.

our giant mirror is also in this room.  (yes, mom, if our nieces ever show up at our doorstep we will triple anchor this to the wall before they make it up the three flights of stairs.  they have short legs and i keep our drill bits handy.)
